Urbana, Illinois | |
The
Blackhawk Chapter hosted the Spring 2011 NRHS Conference in Urbana, Illinois. | On
Saturday morning, April 16, we scheduled an exclusive tour of the nearby
Monticello Railway Museum at Monticello,
Illinois. Upon arrival,
we were greeting by the friendly volunteers of the Monticello Railway Museum,
including free coffee and donuts. Then we boarded a vintage passenger train pulled
by recently restored Southern Railway #401 for its first revenue run of
the season, traveling from the museum to the station in Monticello and return.
The remainder of the morning was spent visiting and photographing the museum's
equipment and shops. |
The traditional Saturday
evening conference banquet will be taking place in the Holiday Inn's main
banquet room, and our after-dinner speaker was Professor
Christopher Barkan from the University of Illinois Railroad Engineering
Program, detailing the history of railroad engineering at the U of I along with
the latest developments, including the opening of Rail
Transportation and Engineering Center. Special thanks to the Monticello
Railway Museum, Professor Barkan, the Holliday Inn-Urbana and all the Blackhawk
Chapter volunteers who made this event possible. |
