As part of a brief infatuation with web design during the Internet boom and bust of the 1990s, I became the volunteer webmaster for these organizations and I invite you to visit these sites:

Railroad Slide Shows from the John Riha Collection

For almost 50 years, my father John Riha documented Chicago's amazing variety of railroads during a rapidly-changing time for both the railroad's and the region. So far, four programs have been created featuring my father's (and others) photgraphs set to music.

ELGIN, JOLIET & EASTERN
40 years around (not thru) Chicago

A look at the EJ&E from the mid-1960s until it's last day as an independent railroad. Originally presented in 2008, it has been update with photos from the “J's” last day of operation on January 31, 2009. Featuring music of Steelers Wheel, Steely Dan, Chuck Hall and The Georgia Satelites. (14 minutes)

The Griffith Show

Throughout the 60s and early 70s, Griffith, Indiana was one of the hottest spots in the Chicagoland and Nortwest Indiana area, featuring trains from the Grand Trunk Western, Erie Lackawanna, Chesapeake & Ohio, EJ&E, Penn Central and Amtrak. Catch the endless parade of trains set to the music of Guess Who. Pink Floyd, B.B. King, The O-Jays and more. (28 minutes)

Northwest Indiana
in the 60s, 70s & early 80s

Sample the incredible varierty of railroading in Nortwest Indiana before the mega-mergers. See hotspots like Valparaiso, Wellsboro and Hohman Avenue in Hammond. Take a look at the Monon and South Shore. All while listening to some great Indiana-themed music. (32 minutes)

The Last Days of the Rock

Created to recognize the 30th anniversary of the shutdown of the Rock Island, this show takes a year-by-year look at the “mighty fine line” from 1969 through 1980 at Chicago-area locations from LaSalle Street Station to Joliet.
(Preview Version - 15 minutes, Full Version - approximately 60 minutes)

Milwaukee Road 261
One Family's Photo Album

A fast-paced retrospective of the 15-year career of the Midwest's very own restored steamer. Included are the maiden run on the Wisconsin Central, BNSF Employee Appreciation Specials, the 2004 Grand Excursion and more.
(10 minutes)

These shows can be displayed at any venue offering free admission and with no renumeration to me.
Please E-mail me for more information.

Digital Slide Scanning

Using the same Nikon CoolScann 5000 used to capture the photos for the above presentations, I can quickly and inexpensively capture your 35mm mounted slides, with your choice of options for size, quality and even computer-generated improvements for exposure. Please E-mail me for more information.
